May 31

Thursday is essentially Friday here (last day of classes!!) so after class, we all went to the roof and hung out. After Wednesday night's dinner, we became friends with Waed's brother, Muhammad. He is a suregon and is very nice.  He came to the apartment at like 5 pm to check check on us and see what we were doing that night. We weren't going to do anything besides hang out at B12- our favorite cafĂ©, but that was unacceptable, so he asked if we wanted to have a BBQ. Obviously we did, and he called Waed to see if it was okay. She said it was as long as we were home by 6. We had to get ready very quickly (unnecessary, but whatever) and then we met downstairs.  The boys went shopping for food and we waited.  Muhammad told us that his friend was going to bring us to the BBQ place.  We met his friend (who did not speak english, and is a geography middle school teacher) and got in his car.  We spoke to him in Arabic on our way.  He stopped the car on the side of the road at one point to smoke a cigarette, which was weird, but okay- he offered it to us, but we said la shukran.
We stopped at a kind of random place and were confused.  It was very hilly and deserted, but Muhammad's friend told us to get out of the car.  I am happy we did.  We walked up a hill (not easy in flip flops) to see THIS VIEW.  It was great.  The main pic is of me, Nicole, and Sarah.  Thought u should meet them because they will be reappearing throughout this blog.
Anyway, we left this look-out and went to the BBQ location.  I thought we were going to someone's house/farm, but apparently Waed said it was too close to the border... so we didn't.  We found the other cars and started to unload kind of onto the side of the road.  Across the street there was a STAMPEDE-type thing of goats/sheep  Because the men bought the groceries, we were supposed to prepare/cook.  I tried not to, but it was unavoidable bc there are only 5 girls and one (Molly) is a vegetarian-  I had to help.  This is a PIC of Molly & me preparing dinner- not fake smiles.  This is the RAW MEAT. The dinner was great.  MUHAMMAD told us that people tell jokes at Jordanian BBQs so he told some funny jokes that he was worried wouldn't translate well, but they did- a lot of laughing.  Here are the BOYS (Bo in the yellow hat, John in the purple, Zach in stripes, and Jack sitting on Max's lap) and the GIRLS (Sarah, Molly, Nico & Laurel... our teacher friend is in the back smoking hookah).  THIS is the final product- soooo delicious.  We got home in time for our curfew and went to bed- big trip tomorrow!!
