Friday
Boring school... I don't really remember anything significant that happened. At the end of the day we went to the train to go to Fes!!! I thought Kristen would have landed and gotten in contact w/me by then, but she didn't.... Side note from Thursday- Kristen's mom, Lisa, forgot her passport at home bc she decided to scan them last minute and left them in the scanner, soooo I got a very cryptic email from Kristen on Thursday night saying "I might be coming alone tonight....." Alot of people came to the rescue and she made it with practically NO time to spare...
The train was crowded, as always, but I was able to snag a seat next to Sara. I played a lot of solitaire on the train instead of writing my paper... Woops!! It was a more pleasant trip than Fes 1.0, and we got there in no time. Noor picked us up with another car and because I hadnt heard from KW yet, I decided to go w/them. Noor set up a nice apartment for the other girls, but I was lucky enough to stay in the beautiful Ramada with the Wissmars. We had dinner (tajine) with Noor and his friends and then I took a cab back to the Ramada once I finally got in contact with KDubs. It turns out that we were on the same train!! I should have checked first class bc she got a first class ticket. That would have been smart and funny. Anyway... I ate dinner at the apartment thing, and then met Kristen and Lisa. SO GOOD to see them. Even more refreshing than I thought it would be, and I knew it was going to be great. We caught up a little and then went downstairs to the restaurant/bar in the hotel. My friends picked us up from our hotel and we went a few doors down to a night club type thing. I was really disgusting (unshowered and in a static-y shirt), but it was okay. Lisa (Kristen’s mom) came with us! It was funny, and fun. Decent music, and more crowded than last time. We left kind of early because we were tired. Kristen suggested that I showered Friday night (right before bed) and THEN ANOTHER ONE on Saturday night-grrrreat idea. I took a shower and then went to bed.
We woke up from a FABULOUS sleep and ate breakfast in the hotel. It was just okay, but the eggs were better than they looked. There was also some sort of soccer team in the breakfast area at the same time as us. Def not as good as the French basketball team, but I DO luv a man in uniform. Kristen and Lisa met a man on the train (similar to my trip to Fes…) who offered to show them around the next day (Saturday). We met “Simou” (Silent U) and went to the Medina. I basically re-did my Fes medina experience with them, but it was still fun. Simou took us around, and brought us to the tanneries etc. Simou was better than our other tourguide because he spent some time growing up in the medina. Here is a picture of the three of us. He knew A LOT of people, and got the Wissmars some very good deals. They bought a lot of stuff, but it was all very nice and inexpensive because Simou was there. We went back to the hotel to drop off all of their stuff, and then went out to lunch. We took two cabs to get lunch, and our cab driver didn’t seem to know where he was going, so he dropped us off, but we were very confused. We got a LITTLE nervous, but then once when we did- Simou found us. Lunch was great- we all shared a lot and I got an avocado/date/almond/fig juice and was very happy. We went back to the hotel for a little R&R.
I didn’t sleep at the hotel. I skyped with Briana which was lovely (except for the fact that she was picking her nose the whole time). Then I went to the gym- VERY reluctantly. I ran on the treadmill for a little over 1 mile (in kms)… I then did one sit-up, asked the woman who was like in charge of the gym for some water- it was at least 89 degrees in the gym, and then left. The second shower of the weekend was even better than the first- I shaved my legs (sorry if you don’t care… it was memorable) and then I had some towel time. I called my friends who were at the Riad and said we would be there by 8 pm.
We got to the riad after 8, but not much later. Everyone was in the room that they were all staying in for the night- getting ready for my birthday Saturday. We weren’t particularly hungry, but we were waiting to eat dinner. A lot of rap music and hair dryers/curlers--- very similar to what 8 pm on my 21st birthday at Conn would look like… We started to get a liiiiittle hungry, and we were assured that dinner would be soon. Finally we were called up to the terrace. There were cute little balloons everywhere and drinks bizaaf. The first couple of songs that were playing were bootleg Nicki Minaj, but then they miraculously became real. Noor and Dep (his friend) came out with a BIRTHDAY CAKE with 22 candles on it. SO NICE and unexpected!! I was happy and forgot about the joy of blowing out the candles. I really don’t even remember what I wished for bc I was so taken off-guard, and because I was so happy in the moment- I couldn’t think of anything. The cake was an ice cream cake- similar to pralines & cream (Nicki do you think that there is any more of that in ur SH freezer?????). I was a total clam- it was amazing, and I ate three pieces throughout the night. CAKE FOR DINNER!!! We were a little confused, but didn’t care. I would love to have cake for dinner more often (def not every day though). We sat around and chatted for a while. A kid from North Carolina (studying abroad in Seville) was staying in the Riad, and he came up and chatted for a while. He was cute, but his last name was sprinkle. He didn’t come out with us, but it was nice to talk to him for a while. We went to a club kind of thing, which played live music (after a DJ was spinning for a little- Ass by Big Sean was the last song that he played, and I kind of wish the DJ was on for the entire night…). It was a good night, but not crazy. We were all pretty exhausted so we went home after the first place and I passseeeeddd out.
Sunday March 4
We woke up not incredibly early, and then went down for breakfast. Apparently we missed breakfast? But a man made us a bread basket and tea and yogurt. I had to get home to write some essays for school so we just hung out at the hotel and then I took a cab to the train. (K & L stayed in Fes for one more night). My friends who were staying at the Riad missed the train that I got on and then they also missed the next one too, so i was lucky to have made the train that I wanted to. Solo train ride was fun. I had two seats to myself practically the whole time (I was very strategic about it… Rachel). I bought a water on the train and just listened to music and looked out the window- i also did the readings that I had to do for my essay that was due. I got off the train and seriously debated taking a taxi (I had all of the stuff that my mom sent Kristen in addition to the TOO MUCH stuff I brought to Fes) I lost the argument with myself and walked home. A child spanked me in the medina. He wasn't quite a child actually… he was old enough to know that he was in the wrong- I turned around and yelled some explicitaves (which meant nothing to him) and walked away. As I was walking I thought that I should have like grabbed him and shook him or something, but then I changed my mind. I don't know what to do with that, but I am just going to brush this one off. A lot of people on my program would had FREAKED out, but I am kinda over it/lazy. I didn't tell a lot of people either. It's NBD but if he tries it again- he's going down. It also like HURT, and was funny because my backpack was SO HUGE it was like a hunchback, so he had to like bend down underneath my backpack to get to my butt…. idiot.
ANYWAY I got home and my fam said that they missed me blah blah. I actually had a lot of HW, so I kinda tried to do it. I had to Skype with Zenk the Tank because it was her BIRTHDAY!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY WOOOO MINES TOMORROW! She was lonely, which made me sad, but i couldn't really pay a lot of attention to her because I had a lot of work. She is in Milan now and is having fun (I think?). I finished my paper, and it was TERRIBLE but I didn't care. I wouldn't dare turn in something this bad to my real college, or even FS for that matter, but I really wasn't into it. We will see how it goes- actually we probably won't because someone told me that we don't even get anything back ever. UGH… Bedtime- I was very excited to wake up on March 5th- the festivities continue…..
THANK YOU to Sara B for two of the pix…. I was really slacking with the cam this weekend.
