Weekend March 31 & April 1

Saturday

We spent all day Saturday using the wifi at the French Institute. I skyped with my mom and we decided that we wanted to stay in Morocco for her entire visit (what I actually wanted to do). Then I started to plan where we were going to go. I did all of this, and did NOT write my 5-page paper that was due on Monday. I was going to go to the hammam with Sara’s family, but they wanted to go at 3 pm and that was too early for us. Instead, we stayed at the French Institute for a while, and then went on a run. We ran the other way (not towards the bridge), which was MUCH better than my normal route. It was actually literally running on the beach. There were a lot more people out and around. Some were kind of rude and chatty, but I had my iPod in and ignored them.

I had NO PARENTS on Saturday night, so Imane said that I could have a sleepover with someone (she suggested Sara) because her friend was going to sleep over too. I remembered the no parents after our run, and suggested that Sara take a shower in my house. She went home for her own tea time, and then came back. For a little I had absolutely nobody in my house, which was GREAT. I showered and then sat in my loungewear listening to rap music outloud on my computer. Then peeps came home, but it was good while it lasted. We were planning on meeting our friends at El Palatino’s. It took longer than we had expected to get ready, so we were a little late. We met up at the Tram stop and walked there. Faisil & Eyoub were calling me, but I was kind of excited for a lady’s night. I told them where we were going and VERY vague directions, but somehow they made it. It kinda made the night weird, but it was fine I guess. We decided to go home after El Palitinos and left Faisil and Eyoub there.

On the way home (it was pretty dark) someone got too close for comfort and was following us closely. We started to walk quicker, but he wouldn’t leave. I was VERY close to saying something evil when I saw our friend Eboni’s host brother- Mustafa (hands down the cutest Moroccan that I have come across thus far) and his friend Eyoub (probably the nicest/most cartoon-y/funniest). We made a b-line for them and the weirdo left us alone. We talked with Mustafa and Eyoub for a little and then told them that we were going to go home. They insisted on walking us (as they should!!) and we walked and talked some more. I am very glad they walked us. The streets were bumpin, but not a lot of ladies out. We spoke about the concept of a “sleepover” which doesn’t really exist here. Sara’s mom is convinced that Sara and I are lesbian (we think) and Mustafa and Eyoub did not deny that notion. Really funny. They invited us to play pool the next day- too bad I still had a 5 page paper to write…

Sunday

We woke up at a semi-reasonable hour (~8:15 for me). Breakfast was goooood (because we had guests). I left with Sara, and she went home. IIII went to the beach club that I have been dying to go to for a while. Mohammad the V (I think) was a founding member of this club. As I was walking along the beautiful Rabat shore, I imagined myself walking to Shain Library in CT on that Sunday morning. NO comparison. I was a clam. Peeps were out and it was a beautiful morning. The surf club is SO great. Very spacious and empty. Not noisy and nice people. It is definitely on the pricy side in terms of cafés, but totally worth it. I took a PICTURE of myself in front of the view that I was looking at the entire day. Not sure why it looks dark and gray- it was bright and sunny out. As I was leaving I met a blonde Moroccan (he called himself abiad, white). He was nice, but I got over him once he called me 3 minutes after I left him. On to the next one. I went home for lunch which was yummy lentils and chicken. I was going to go back to the Beach Club, but I wanted to go with a friend. Nobody was interested, AND I told “abiad” that I was going back, and I didn’t want to see him, SO I stayed home and did the essay. I cant remember anything in particular about the rest of the day- I think it was boring though.
